LAND HOLDERS RIGHTS – MINING AND PETROLEUM EXPLORATION
Council has recently received requests from the public as to their rights and responsibilities when they are approached by companies looking at undertaking mining or petroleum/gas exploration on their properties.
Council advises that it is not the authority that deals with exploration licences as it is a State Government responsibility under the various Mining Acts.
To assist all residents to know their rights, the Department of Mineral Resources has produced two documents on Land Holder Rights for mining and petroleum exploration. These may be viewed on the Department’s Website at:

The Department of Mineral Resources can also be contacted by Telephone: 1300 736 122 for more information or to assist you in addressing any concerns you may have. Your local State Member may also be able to assist.
